About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

Problems - High and rising cost of accommodation, - Policy review for unfair housing laws, - Uncoordinated property markets; - Absence of adequate politicalwill. Potential impacts of the project -Awareness in the areas of urban research, professionalism; -Engaging youths with interests in the built sector; -Enhanced partnerships and recognizing real estate professionals as community assets.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

The solution seeks an intervention fund to execute a standard campaign launch for the organization that will emerge. The solution aptly intends to organize professionals in its chosen sector into an operational and integratred unit that recognizes them as community assets. The project is capable of reorganizing the industry for sustainable growth therefore, entirely based on the thoroughness of the campaign launch's execution.

Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

The solution/project is currently offered by DigiGidi Realty Company (DRC) Ltd and it leverages on the establishment of the tenancy law in 2011 in Lagos state which aptly demonstrated the concern for the accommodation challenges in the city. Yet, the application of the law is UNFAIR!!!. The solution will make an advocacy for the review of the law. The activities are specific and readily included in the details of the 'Campaign Launch' to be organized. The project will complement the local authority’s effort to achieve its objective through the establishment of the Lagos Real Estate Transaction Department ( and professionals by establishing the Association of Estate Agents of Nigeria (

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact for the coming years.

Decisions made in the RE industry is very important to investors, the society and to the government because its implications imply a large amount of wealth. So it is important to ensure the continuous education and welfare of these individuals and entities that help in the most expensive transactions of people’s lifetime. Urban actors also know that most of the rules and regulations that apply in real estate worldwide do not apply in Nigeria. In the operational context, urban professionals require licenses to efficiently operate as a business concern. In the future, the project will scale up to include Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) as membership increases because the challenge is not only limited to helping the government develop the right public expertise to administer real estate services but also ‘recreate’ institutions in the industry up to the enactment of an act.

Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?

In Nigeria, the estate agency profession doesn’t require any qualification and operators are often named 'quacks'. So the project intends to organize the membership and prepare them for industry demands of the 21st century. The project will initiate by having an online presence and database where information will be pooled and processed. The most important evaluation measure for the project is the growth of the membership. We expect that as membership grows, potential affiliates of the organization (e.g. Banks, insurance, mortgage etc) will begin to see opportunities for more innovations.

Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

The project will be financially sustainable because it has an hybrid structure (non profitand for profit side). Also, because of the objective of building capacity to ensure the successful birth of a formidable nonprofit that can guarantee social accountability of the profession. Even though not new around the world, the proposed project serves to establish the ‘large scale’ foundation needed to manage fast-urbanizing cities like Lagos.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

The motive of establishing an nonprofits for personal gain over commitment to advocacy has created a vacuum in the responsiveness to the qualitative housing inadequacy which is more dynamic and complex to understand. The project is the first to merge participation (inclusiveness) of industry players (stakeholders) with political will. Founding Story

The Real Estate Exchangers and Agents initiative is an an advocacy platform for real estate professionals following the enactment of the Tenancy law in 2011 in Lagos. The unfair application of the laws necessitated a policy review. However, as a business concern the purpose of the initiative is to enforce the notion that "The constantly changing ownership of land requires the integrity and knowledge of those that influence such exchanges and business practice" so the initiative also advocates the emergence of an organization that submits to promoting peaceful ownership and effective passing of titles from one person to another at the least possible cost in Nigeria and the story continues!
