About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

Our project is working towards helping our country. As a result of poverty, lack of proper medical services, lack of education and teenage pregnancies, we find ourselves with children being abandonned daily and ending up in orphanages. Orphanages that are not looked after and that stuggle to feed the children let alone clothes them. To start, We are building a farm in the orphanage to help become self sufficient and sell to the market as well.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

As we focus on 1 orphanage per year, To start, We are building a farm in the orphanage to help them become self sufficient and sell to some of their goods to the market as well to make some money in order to take care of the bills. To do so we will be accompanied by "la maison du paysan" A farm specialist that is ready to follow us in this mission as well as do continuous follow ups regularly. We will be doing collection of clothes, shoes, books and all first necessities throughout the year. We are putting in place a Sponsorship program per child. We are taking care of the children school fees. We will make sure the children have an a real Christmas, every child will have a gift We have a doctor ready to check on them regularly.
Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

Those children were brought into this World and then abandoned in different orphanages that have no means to take care of themselves. This solution will definitely make a difference. It will finally insure 3 meals a day per child instead of 1. It will finally suppress hunger. By selling the excess from the farm they will be able to get some money to pay for clothes, shoes, milk, diapers... and therefore ensure that the children don’t stay naked and bear foot all day, buy milk for the babies and buy diapers for the babies because at the moment the children are sitting naked in their own urine. The actual situation of the orphanage we are looking after is very alarming and this solution will ensure their self-sufficiency permanently.

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact for the coming years.

So far we have a partnership with "la Maison du Paysan", a farmhouse ready to follow us in this project to help us implement the new farm in the orphanage as well as do training a follow up afterwards regularly. We have a partnership with a GP and Paediatrician that went to the orphanage to do a check up on the children and on their caregivers. He will also be going back to the orphanage monthly. With clothes and shoes donations we have managed to offer clothes, shoes, bed sheets, mosquito nets, baby bottles, milk,1st aid kits, soap, rice, oil ... to help the orphanage. With the help of volunteers we have organised a cleaning day at the orphanage to give them a hand and we will be giving a hand regularly We have brought ready cooked meals Until the farm is installed and ready to go, punctual actions will be organized to maintain a good but sadly temporary support for the orphanage.

Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?

Moving forward and with some financial help as well as volunteers ongoing support we will be able to take care of 2 or 3 orphanages per year. Get farms up and running in all of them simultaneously by having different volunteers focus on the orphanages in the pre-designated sections. The children will be receiving the appropriate care that they deserve and go to school because their school fees will be covered. Our future adults with their stomach filled will be able to focus in class and therefore start their future the right way. Health issues will be dealt with 1 doctor per section

Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

To ensure financial sustainability for now we are relying on donations and when it is very hard we put in money from our own pockets. We are hoping on help from everywhere we can get any because it is very hard for these children to survive. They deserve help from people who care to make a change to their lives and to our future.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

No one is looking for a permanent solution.

Founding Story

My best friend and I are one of the lucky ones, we are conscious of it and since we both moved back to Benin we’ve been wanting to help and give back.We joined the Rotaract club and later on the Rotary club here in Benin. We were part of many actions with the blood banks and the fight against Polio to name a few but we always fell short and felt like we could do more.Even by then we kept saying let’s wait until we are older or until we are rich or...but one day over lunch I asked him what we were waiting for, that was followed by silence and that’s when we knew we were ready and motivated like never before.Help and change starts NOW.Even as little as help can be it starts now.We want to make a change because those kids are the future
