Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

John, 33 from Athens had family income 10.000€ p/y spent in rent, food, commute and daily expenses. Available land of 3.5 acres in N. Evia and a budget of 6.000€. Supported by xorafaki.gr in 2013 he planted 0.5 acres spicy chicory and 3 acres okra (spring plantation) and carrots (fall plantation). He is now living at his family owned house in N. Evia, with a yearly income of 13.000€ that is expected to be increased by 45% when his plantation reaches full production. He is working with xorafaki.gr to certify his production and to package his products in order to increase his profit margin.

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact for the coming years.

In our 1.5 years of being online, we have developed a community of 6000 people asking for our advice regarding information on cultivating. More than 500 have gotten in touch discussing specific information regarding their land and their goals. 30% of people who give us these info, return to buy our service in a course of 3 to 6 months. Customer satisfaction is high, 90% said our service topped their expectations. 75% have recommended us to a friend, 90% are happy to do so. Xorafaki.gr helps people change their lives using the available resources and educates them to use sustainable solutions to produce safe products for both man and environment. Our goal is to expand our online services to coaching, monitoring, certification, processing and packaging and sales management. Our target is small producers who are in need for low cost but easy to understand and implement realistic solutions.

Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?

We want to become the tool for the small scale producer, so that He can have the intellet and support to cultivate, process and trade food with sustainability, quality and stafety. Thus we are desingning the expansion of our service through out the whole process from farm to fork and looking ways to adapt them for small farmers globally.

Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

Xorafaki has already paid of its staring capital. For launching the new services we have generated the 15% of the amount from the current operating activities. We plan to invest 35% with our own capital and 50% from funding bodies or/ and private investors. Our revenue comes from selling our services that will cover all our operation costs and will give a profit margin 15-20%.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

Although xorafaki.gr has no direct competition there is a number of organizations that support new farmers and agriculture, such as agrosimvoulos and organization earth, by providing educational seminars in cultivation and farming. In additions there are services concerning loans and contractual farming from Piraeus Bank. The services of the organizations above are exclusively for full time farmers. Our difference is that our services are online and customized not only to the specifications of the land but also to the way of life of the customer, who may not have farming as main profession.
