Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

Boa has launched a community supported agriculture organic production with a cooperative model. The land rented by the cooperative nearby Lisbon city is producing all kinds of vegetables being consumed by city families, members of the cooperative. Agriculture work and management is all done by members as well. Members can participate in production activities witch allows them to exchange work for vegetables and reduce the money exchange. All members participate in investments, information on the production is shared every week. Each member has it´s own participation plan according to specific needs and motivations.Educational contents on organic food, the benefits of each vegetable and the integrated production processes impact are central.

Boa productions are aimed to multiply locally driven by the partnership work. Boa is based in an organization model that integrates values and practices put together in a wide investigation work done by the team, that consider useful, participatory, ecological and educational productions, made by and for an inclusive, participatory community, valuing the quality of integration, development and empowerment of the beneficiaries. This product, enriched by action investigation held in Boa implementation, will be the source for workshops and other educational media products and initiatives, and will enable the growth and replication of Boa model.A study on impacts evaluation of sharing economy and cooperative practices being used by Boa, will take place in partnership with Lisbon University Sociology Investigation Center next year, is aimed to create useful elements to public policies.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

"Land sharing for food and social good" is addressing the health food production and the inclusion of disadvantaged people. Boa also integrates people from disadvantaged groups but it integrates beneficiaries with a wide diverse background and access to resources since its approach is based on the diversity of the people participating in the community. The example given has also an agriculture production to improve food self sufficient, like Boa has. The difference is Boa has a cooperative model and a multisectorial production structure for work creation. Other project is Social Entrepreneurs Agency in Portugal that is also not based on a cooperative model like Boa is, and it does not include the consumers in the solution creation, it is centered only in the producers. Boa approach is centered in collaborative producers and consumers.

The management team joins together compromised people from different backgrounds and expertise that are able and motivated to ensure quality achievements for the project. It integrates a NGO project manager with communication and economic sociology background entrepreneur, an experienced organic agriculture worker and trainer with wide social movement background, a senior creative copy writer with master degree in solidarity economy, an experienced self development skills and community communication trainer, a designer committed to social causes and documentary filmmaker, a product designer, two organic food and vegetarian passionate cooks and cooperative promoters and an NGO project manager with management studies background. The managers of partner organizations integrate the management and development team of Boa with a system design that articulates support areas and productions.
