About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

We believe that food that is easily accesible and affordable today are too far different from food that are healthy and sustainable. Processed food has made food affordable but neglects basic health and sustainability concerns. Because we have been doing this for a long time new generations do not know what it means to have healthy and sustainable food often falling into the "common practice" trap.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

CleanBites believe in getting people to make healthier food choices through a transitioning phase to train their body to prefer healthier food. We cook and deliver food that is healthy and environmentally sustainable. This is done over 3 levels. Level 1 is food that is healthy but familiar. Level 3, healthiest choicest on our menu and also the most foreign to the customer.( Example: Level 1 - brown rice with cumin marinated oven baked chicken , Level 2 quinoa, Level 3 buckwheat) We believe in educating people about making healthier choices by having one new learnings about the food you are eating printed on the packaging. We will also showcase our suppliers and encourage visiting them to learn more about why they should care

A personal example is how i started to prefer whole wheat bread over white bread. It took sometime eating it repeatedly but after that eating a white bread gives you a feeling that it is unhealthy. We will include a learning for the food they are eating printed on to the packaging. It will also show what level the food is in so they know if they could try something of a higher level. Then we would also include where we are sourcing our food to give them the opportunity to learn about the source, their methods and ideals of sustainability and health.

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact for the coming years.

Because we are an online ordering platform this allows us to have data about users ordering behaviour. When do the users start ordering more food in our level 3 section for example. We also will have surveys asking if they are eating healthy during registration. Then over 10/20 orders we will implement an online and call survey to check if they start to achieve that health consiousness when ordering food. Therefore come out with an estimated number of food for transitioning per level We are also able to measure amout of people in certain cities if they are eating healthier. We wil also sell food that requires a user to "pay" a bit more for food that has better sustainibility solutions, but specific solutions. eg: 1 dollar more for sustainable packaging and refund them half of it if they returned it to us. eg:choose between commercial chicken or free roaming organic fed chicken.

Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?

Plan for distribution nationwide and hiring profesional cooks and nutritionist to add more health value. We will also start researching on dineamic (http://dineamic.com.au/) a healthy freezed food methodology or plan partnership programme with them to allow CleanBites to achieve greater spread internationally. Coming up with sustainable food and waste programs that is easily taken up by local goverments and businesses to follow suite.

As well as education for health and sustainability. On a Dr OZ show a woman who followed his advice to start eating healthier changed the food she was cooking too drastically that her husband was not able to adapt. He had stopped at fastfood restaurant before going home. A transitioning phase would be useful in this case. Cleanbites allows both of them to eat healthier but food at diff levels.

Founding Story

The story started when we were looking for healthier food or rather clean food and found that it was almost impossible to find in Kuala Lumpur. Then I started to research on health food choices. Most of it is either organic or vegetarian. But most of them are commercial focused rather than health. Where vegetarian food are mostly artificial meat made of flour. Organic stores are using fake organic sources. In fact I had a friend who was allergic to MSG and found that most of the food business here uses MSG. Therefore this had led me into research how to provide healthy food and create awareness at the same time.Relaying my experience of how i slowly prefered healthy food over fast food, realised the need for a transitioning avenue.

Challenges: What challenges might hinder the success of your project and how do you plan to overcome them?

Currently the biggest challenge is getting the right head chef or main cook. Our plans to overcome it is to educate people of our cause get the word out reach out to the culinary communities in search of the right candidate.

We are in talks with a few chef and a few schools. One most recently we are going to meet is Young Chefs Academy a school for teaching people (kids!) how to make better meal choices by empowering them with the knowledge of why a particular food is good or bad for your body.
