About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

Ghanaians have the feeling that their voice is not taken into account during the passing of law, although they are obliged to follow these laws. This has created a gap between policy/law makers and citizens, because the voices of the citizens are not taken into account directly. Government also finds it difficult to know what the citizens want and for that reason they make legislative decisions without listening to them

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

MYVoiceGh is a web platform where Ghanaians can make a legislative petition and others can vote on the petition so that the government will take this petition into account during the passing of laws. This gives the citizens a feeling of involvement in the law making process.
Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

With MyVoiceGh, people will be able to create a petition and this will be signed by other Ghanaians. When the number have been obtained, this information will then be sent to the government for consideration. This will give every Ghanaian the opportunity to make a difference in the laws that govern us.

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact for the coming years.

We have build the application and have piloted it, in one community. We intend to further develop the application using feedback that we get from the pilot stage.

Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?

At full capacity, MyVoiceGh will empower Ghanaians and make their voices count in the passing of laws that affect them

Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

We intend to raise money from donors and partners who use the system to register their petitions. We will also charge people who create petitions so that we will send the petition to all our member so they can sign it if they think it is appropriate. Finally we will be selling that we gather on the platform to interested groups.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

At present there is no local competitor doing what we intend to do, there are however, NGO's and pressure groups that sometimes organize people to demonstrate or speak out for the government to listen to them. We intend to partner with these people and set up a petition for them so that their members can sign. The NGO can then use the data obtained to make reference.

Founding Story

The team worked on this project during a hackathon where we were supposed to using internet technology to empower people to make their voice heard. Our team won and we had some media coverage and eventually we were reached by some NGO's that work in the area of legislative openness. We then decided to build this application to empower Ghanaians.
