About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

The main problem we are working to solve is the "habit" that are innate in the person when it comes to being conscious of our environment. We can say 1% of the community is concerned about the environment and I have not seen any strict action taken to input change in the daily habits toward the environment (Waste, water, energy, air pollution, desertification etc.) The impact of the problem are health issues and bad management of the environ

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

My solutions to this problem I believe is a big amount of advertisement, communication and awareness event that educates or attract the public. I would like to be able to attract the attention of the public, especially the youth. Doing so I would like to do as many awareness events, hands on activities and campaigns as possible in order to have their attention. The voice of the youth would be the drive of the movement. I truly believe that Seneco can mostly educate and explain clearly to these young citizens the impact of their actions through their knowledge of Green practices. In this case they can use that tool to apply and create a new generations of better habits and conception of their environment.
Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

We just started during the Green week 2014 and the school chose waste as their subject. We educated them on what can happen when we throw away waste and how it harms the environment. We did a separation activity with them. Since then, the kids do not look at waste the same anymore. They are excited to do upcyling and recoiling activities. Because we are teaching a future generation the impact can only be tangible in a year or so. At this point it is a matter of instoring the habits.

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact for the coming years.

The impact of our work to date is knowledge and conscious decision making of our youth. We have managed to communicate the importance of our environment to small businesses and schools to take part of this movement. I see the kids do not send

Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?

The main spread strategies moving forward is to have a great way to Communicate to the public in such a way it would attract their interest and attention. Seneco would like to use champions (figures people look up to) to talk and advocate for Green habits. My Goal is to put Senegal as an advocate for "Green". I truly believe as African as a whole we can use our knowledge and jump on the train with everyone else when we speak of Green innovations. All is takes is awareness and education.

Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

My solution plan to ensure financial sustainability is use waste as a source of income to maintain education and prevent sickness through recycling. My other soucre would be to ask for sponsorship Seneco would ask mainly local businesses big and small to support the "Green" mindset for better consumption and respect for the environment.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

the other organizations (Let's do It! and Proplast ) I have come across are mostly fighting the usage of plastic bags. The way it is different is because of the education we are putting in schools to have this action expand. We also use sports in order to communicate to the youth and provide a fun but educative environment.

Founding Story

The "Aha" moment for me was when I realized the Senegalese community does not have any conscious mindset of the impact they have in their country. Twice I met people that traveled to Senegal. I ask for feedback of their trip and it was mostly the main answer. The place is dirty despite of the beautiful people and hospitality when you go outside or to the beach there are trash everywhere. I thought maybe its the lack of recycling centers then I realized before telling them to recycle they have to know why they need to recycle. The conception of waste needs to change. Therefore, i knew it was to late to try to communicate this to the adults and thought the best target would be in our institutions, our youth.
