About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

As education is the key success to any nation's prosperity nowadays, and as illiteracy stands as a big stumbling block towards Yemen's development and economic empowerment, I have come with my venture "Teach to Reach" which aims to combat the widespread illiteracy in the Yemeni cities and rural territories, while enriching the targeted people with practical skills in order to maintain a good job for them after completing the program. What's more, we will be promoting reading as a daily activity in our beneficiaries' life as engaging it in our daily courses.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

We will be organizing with different governmental sectors as well as sponsors in order to use some of the governmental schools as "Illiteracy Centers" and provide us with the needed logistic services. On the other hand, we will engage different youth volunteers in our venture, as they will gain the needed experience while contributing towards one of the most sophisticated national problems simultaneously. Moreover, we will add some useful information(which we think that it can be beneficial to our beneficiaries in terms of technology, internet usage, economic empowerment, health, etc) We will be attracting beneficiaries by several diverse ways such as food for education programs for poor and needy people, as well as providing agricultural needs (incentives) for farmers.
Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

Well, in a country like Yemen, many people are illiterate(especially in the northern and rural part of the country) which represents a big challenge in terms of economic empowerment and prosperity. But what about if we taught those people how to use education and technology for their development and progress, as engaging them in the e-commerce process and marketing their products!! I do believe that if this term has been generalized on a big sector of the community, many people will prosper and we can eradicate a huge percentage out of poverty. Thus, I do firmly believe that education is the core solution to many sophisticated economic and social problems.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

As we begin, I do want to target illiterate people in cities and urban areas, as it is easy to approach them for both of us and our volunteers. Then, as the second phase, we will be targeting people in villages and rural areas as illiteracy is going higher and higher in those areas and many NGOs can't reach them due to logistics and security problems. Regarding the second part of the question, Yes, there are other organizations working in this space, but they don't have a clear vision, as they teach people how to read and write and that's it without concerning to engage them in the market and try to find appropriate jobs for them,

Founding Story: What inspired your venture? Why?

Actually I was inspired by Asian countries, as they have given education a very great significance and thus, they had some of the best countries in the world in terms of economies, education and sustainable development even if they don't have natural resources.
If we go earlier a bit in their history, we would see that combating the high rate of illiteracy was their biggest concern, as they thought how illiterate people can benefit their country and contribute to the national economy. And from my own perspective, I do agree with this strategy, as people is the real and renewed wealth to any country.

What do you want to accomplish in your first year?

I do believe that working individually or with my group only would not be sufficient to get rid of illiteracy, thus, I would like to have some partnerships with other initiatives working on the same issue from different cities and zones especially in villages, as we will be training their teachers and trainers and then give them the responsibility to work on our behalf.
Also I would like to grow the spirit of responsibility towards education in youth, so they can feel that education is the strongest weapon we can have to combat all problems we face currently, and to better our economic and social situations.
Finally, reaching to a specific number set before within a year is considered to be a scale on which we can measure our success and to which level did we fulfill our goals!!

How will your Venture define success in the short term (1-12 months)?

As we begin, overcoming the very beginning challenges and obstacles will be the main and the very essential success points we can measure our progress with.
Also reaching to the planned number of beneficiaries within a year will be considered as an optimistic and outstanding point. Moreover, publicizing our initiative in all Yemeni cities will be our main aim of the initiative in order to cooperate and unite together for combating illiteracy and boosting economic empowerment.

In the long-term (1-3 years)?

Making a noticeable change in the illiteracy rate in Yemen and playing a significant role in the entire educational process while maintaining beneficiaries' economic empowerment are our high goals which we do really want to see in the long term of our initiative's establishment.

How will you measure success?

Based on our success scale and points, we will be having a logical and measurable way to find our path. Moreover, societies' response towards our initiative and what does it offer for them is a very crucial factor we have to rely on.
On the other hand, we do have to focus on the economic and social consequences provided by our beneficiaries after their graduation and what impact did they bring to their local societies.

How will you recruit new members for your venture?

We are having a very transparent selection process, based on picking outstanding university volunteers with special criteria and qualifications in order to contribute actively in the initiative as well as gaining the needed experience simultaneously.

How will you appoint new leaders and transfer leadership when the founding members want to leave the team?

Leadership will be given to members based on the outstanding performance for the project, as well as their general treatment with different members and beneficiaries.
Then, selection will be maintained through a transparent voting process from the selected candidates.

How will you continue your project in 6-months time or once you have spent all of its initial capital?

As we don't have any steady or sustainable income for the project, we will be depending on the sponsors for the first year at least. After that, we will be establishing some micro-projects such as internet cafes and shops in order to maintain our sustainability and continuance.
