Union Elementary School Environmental Literacy Program

Sin fines de lucro / ONG / Sector Civil

After a very successful pilot year, our goal is to expand an outdoor environmental literacy program from two classrooms to include the entire Kindergarten and 1st Grade during the 2010-11 academic school year (a total of 8 classes and 150 students). This program is building consistent, regular time in nature into the public school curriculum.

Earn-A-Bike-Program

One of the projects that our bicycle/pedestrian advocacy group has developed is our Earn-a-Bike program. For the past 2 1/2 yeas a dedicated group of volunteers has been collecting donated bicycle, restoring them and giving them to both children and adults in need in our community primarily for transportation but in the case of the children, for recreation as well. We began in 2008 and estimate having given 150 bikes away so far. This spring we have decided to have people earn their bikes by helping us to refurbish giving them a sense of worth.

SolSolution

Sin fines de lucro / ONG / Sector Civil

SolSolution's mission is to simultaneously generate renewable electricity
and increase the quality of education in underprivileged schools. We
accomplish this by adapting a proven for-profit business model to our
nonprofit. SolSolution pays all upfront costs for solar panels on schools and funds from our sale of electricity are then funneled back to these schools' educational budgets.

Transportation Choices 2020

As program manager of the Club's Transportation Choices 2020 campaign, I am working to reduce RI's carbon emissions by transitioning the state's transportation system away from its reliance on the automobile. My goal is to improve and expand public transit while also ensuring that RI communities become more walkable and bikeable.

Fancy and Delicious Baking Company

Fancy and Delicious Baking Co. is a small-scale (and currently underground) bakery that emphasizes affordability and the quality of homemade goods. We will use as many local and organic ingredients as possible. We taught ourselves how to build clay ovens and bake bread and we want to share this information with our community, so that good, healthy food can be in everybody's hands, and stomachs.

It creates opportunities for employment and for distribution of micro-solar products to benefit communities, leading to increased education and health standards as well as income savings of up to 70%. The project utilises micro-franchising together with the promotion of renewable energy.

Project Laundry List

Sin fines de lucro / ONG / Sector Civil

We want to make the solar clothes dryer (clotheslines) and cold water washing acceptable and desirable in America through social marketing and the application of behavioral economics. We want people to wash their clothes less, make wrinkles cool again, and transform the clothing care cycle.
