Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

Access to mobile cellphone among Kenyans is one of the fastest growing industry hence the projects potential to reach the masses at the bottom of Pyramid. The activities will include a) Online platform upgrade, maintenance and manning, b) Gender and reproductive health content development and dissemination, c) Formation of reproductive health clubs in secondary schools, d) Monitoring and evaluation. The proposed solution will ensure that the subscribers to the platform have access to gender and reproductive health service and other related services at the comfort of a touch of a button where privacy is guaranteed.

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact for the coming years.

. 300 early adopters have already subscribed to the platform and we have been able to refer gender violence and post abortion cases to relevant medical institutions. 2. 10000 project beneficiaries accessing mobile sexual reproductive health information and making informed reproductive health care choices. 3. Sexual reproductive health clubs members applying knowledge acquired on SRH to plan for their future reproductive health life. 4. Project beneficiaries accessing curative and preventive SRH care services from partners. 5. Gender rights awareness raised among the beneficiaries and reduced gender violent cases. 6. Afya Mobi project sustained beyond the funding period.

Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?

• Reduced cases of unwanted pregnancies due to lack of adequate information. • Access to timely, custom and accurate information on reproductive health. • Enhanced self esteem of the targeted beneficiaries • Adequate access to information on reproductive health facilities • Reduced cases of maternal deaths and child mortality due to lack of reproductive health information • Reduced cases of school drop outs due to early pregnancies
Sustainability

Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

Afya Mobi has plans in place to attract as much traffic and subscribers to the platform that will in return attract co-operate partners who will advertise project related products through our platform for a fee. The funds that will be generated through this process will be re-invested back to the project to take it to the next level. After the first five years of operation, the project will introduce a subscription fee.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

There are three main services currently operating in Kenya offering almost the same service as Afya Mobi proposes namely a) Dial A doctor, AfyaKenya and mHealth. Whereas these services and making significant impact on the lives of their clients, majority people from the low income earning communities can not afford the services as they are premium rated. Afya Mobi is a free service to all and is offering quality and well researched and doctor authenticated information to its subscribers.

Founding Story

Halima a 16 year old form two girl not her real name in Mukuru slums once narrated her ordeal with a quack gynecologist to me. She consulted a friend about possible termination of the pregnancy through abortion. The friend took her to a doctor who was to conduct the abortion but during the process, it went wrong. " I noticed large clots of blood coming out and experienced severe pain that sent me to a comma" she told me. " I woke up in Kenyatta national hospital the following day" she added. "If i had the right information about abortion, i would be able to have children in future since the doctor told me that he saved my life but i can't conceive" she remorsefully continued.
