Mella_C is a company that uses the African attire(Ankara) to produce bags,shoes and other fashion accessories, we also train others in this skill to empower them and encourage them to start up their own small scale businesses with little capital. We showcase the beauty of Africa in what we do.

About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

The rate of unemployment is very high in Nigeria, every youth graduates from the University hoping and praying that a job is waiting somewhere for them, but they soon realize that unemployment and poverty is real. Mella_C is a company with the vision to reduce the unemployment rate and empower youths to become employers of labor hence reducing poverty.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

Mella_C's proposed solution which is already in motion is training the youth,women and even children the skill of bag making and shoe making, empowering them with entrepreneurial skills so they can also start up their own business and employ others rather than wait unending for a job that might never come. We also organize business seminars for them to teach them about building their own company and how to be a successful entrepreneur, we mentor them to success, and while at that we also showcase the beauty and dynamics of our African fabric.

Impact: How does it Work

The impact of Mella_c is phenomenal, the first training section we had (picture above) we trained teenagers in a secondary school, they were really excited to learn how to make these products and we thought them how to market them and make profit from the sales, the returns we had was mind blowing, those ladies are already little entrepreneurs and they already posses a marketable skill to help them start up a business. this solution changes unemployed hungry youths to entrepreneurs and employers with skills.

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact for the coming years.

The uniqueness of this project is that, it does not only solve the poverty and unemployment problems, it also enhances creativity and showcases the beauty of the African fabric to the world. We are creatively impacting our world by manufacturing bags and shoes using our local materials and having them stand out in the market and also providing skills acquisition training for women and youths. If the unemployed population in Nigeria adopt this solution we would have succeeded in solving well over 30% of the poverty issue facing the country, and if we can produce and export these products we would be increasing the economic growth of the Nation.

Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?

Mella_C is a global vision, we want to take this initiative to every part of Africa. We are producing in only Nigeria now, but as we grow we will spread into other African countries and establish the same company to display the uniqueness of their own National fabric too. We would have created lots of jobs for the unemployed and reduced the poverty in Africa by a great deal.

Mella_C is a profit making project so we plan to ensure that it generates enough funds to sustain itself financially.

We have competitors in the market, they make this products and sell them, for instance Miss purpleheart, chayilbibimo, and so on, Mella_C is different because coupled with the sales of these products we also focus on training and empowerment as a major in our company, we have a bigger vision to see that these products not only put food on the table but also empower them to help and employ other people.
