The aim of the Mobile WOCS project is making computer education accessible to women in order to provide them the necessary knowledge, political awareness and exposure to enable them know their rights and strive for effective democratic governance and accountability.

About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

Only 5% of women/girls in Africa are computer literate and most villages in kaduna Nigeria which is the primary location of the project have no access to computers let alone of teaching it to the community.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

Mobile WOCS focuses on facilitation of access to computer education by a large number of women/ girls. A large bus will be converted into a small hall containing sets of chairs and desks each equipped with a computer. The bus will be driven to marginalized and remote areas within a towns and villages and parked in a suitable place for thirty days where women who register and enrol into the programme will be taught basic computer knowledge especially on how to access the internet. The ultimate expected outcomes of the idea is an educated, enlightened and mobilised women citizenry that know their rights under the constitution and therefore will srive for achievement of effective democratic governance and accountability.

The innovation involve in the idea is a portability, mobility and flexibility of the computer educational set up which is a departure from the traditional fixed, immobile and rigid system more often.

Mobile WOCS is aimed at providing access of computer education especially the internet to the women/girls that in other to promote linkage between the women and international organizations that will assist them in many ways such as democracy development grants, educational scholarship opportunities and other resources that will enhance their socio-economic empowerment which will leverage regaining of their rights and privileges in the society. And also Education obtain from the internet would expose them to politics which will make them to seek and get elected into political offices where they will promote better governance, transparency and accountability.

Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?

It is a common knowledge that lack of good education on the part of the elected government officials and the generality of the governed citizens is one of the important reason for bad governance, lack of transparency and accountability especially in Africa where majority of the populace are uneducated. The idea of Mobile Women Computer School (Mobile WOCS) will promote better governance, accountability and/or decreased corruption in many ways such as: (i.) A well-educated and informed women society will know it’s right under the constitution and also political limit of those in power .

Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

This project Mobile WOCS is expected to get 50% of the resources from projects supporters like change maker, and the remaining 50% will come from Javanet internet cafe which is already running.
