Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

The product is intended to provide a comfortable environment for the passengers by keeping the temperature of the inside of the car under control.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

It involves utilizing direct sunlight – the main cause of the problem – to create a solution. Reduction in greenhouse gas emissions will be obtained since reliance on the carbon based fuel will be eliminated. Dyesensitised solar cells will cover the top of the car and provide power by utilizing the incident solar radiation. Furthermore, by turning the glass windows on the car into smart glass by application of special coatings, the incident radiation will not be allowed to enter the car thus reducing the heating effect of the inside of the car. the smart glass becomes tinted under an applied electric field thus reducing the amount of incoming radiations inside the car.

This can bring a change to everyday life of almost every person. You do not have to worry about sitting in car that is pipping hot. This can become a way for people to get introduced to the concept of utilizing solar energy for transportation, which will bring about a social change and pave the way for eventual adoption of renewable technologies. The product is intended to provide a comfortable environment for the passengers by keeping the temperature of the inside of the car under control. The idea is an amalgamation of smart and renewable technologies which has not yet been implemented. Being a supplementary product, the idea will need no longer than a couple of months to be implemented on a substantial scale.

The project is still in the development phase. Once implemented it will have a huge impact on the society. The project is a candidate for becoming a successful supplementary product for the automobile industry in future. Not only can the existing cars benefit from it but the product is also suitable for being made into a factory default for future vehicles. The temperature inside a parked car may reach up to 60-65 degrees during summers. If we can eliminate this trouble with our cars without compromising on passenger's comfort, without utilizing extra power and without emitting extra carbon in the atmosphere then it will be a huge achievement and this is exactly the point of this project. The product will improve the functionality of vehicles by providing an additional power source.

Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?

This technology is very easy to implement and an addition to the air conditioning system of motor vehicles and may even be integrated with other electrical components. Once properly established it will be embraced by the people at a much faster rate and with in 5-10 years you can find no cars without this technology on the roads. The automotive as well as the photo-voltaic industries will benefit from this product. When adopted by the automotive companies, the photovoltaic businesses will flourish because they will gain a new market.

Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

This is kind of a small up-gradation and does not cost too much even on the individual level, The use of dyesensitized panels also reduces the cost as they are relatively cheaper than wafers. The only cost includes the cost of panels, inverter, glass coatings and might be a small motor to power fans. If implemented on a large scale the costs can further cut down.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

There are some electric cars in the market which uses batteries to power the air conditioning system which can also be controlled while the car is parked. Our approach is to apply this technique to not only electric but every type of car in the world. Our main focus will be petrol and diesel based vehicles. Moreover we are using solar panels to generate the power for air conditioning hence we are reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Furthermore, the use of smart glass for car windows is relatively new and is not being used in any current car manufacturing company.

Founding Story

MY friend use to drop me back my home in his car. Our department's parking is an open area with no shading. So one has to park his car in the scorching sun during daytime. So, when we used to return to th car to go home after classes. it would be unbearably hot from inside. One day we thought to solve this problem and then developed this idea.


Usman Salahuddin ( Chemical and Energy engineer) Haider Ejaz ( Chemical and Energy engineer) We have applied for some funding through local bodies and as soon as we get it we look forward to expand our team to include some mechanical, electrical engineers and MBA and product design students.
