Project Summary
Elevator Pitch

Concise Summary: Help us pitch this solution! Provide an explanation within 3-4 short sentences.

Ugift is the platform where heroes can connect with other heroes to deliver goods to people around the world. A hero can be a donor who gives away valuable stuff or a traveler who can carry those items inside bagages, who, by doing so, can help cut freight and import costs.

WHAT IF - Inspiration: Write one sentence that describes a way that your project dares to ask, "WHAT IF?"

What if we use the internet to connect people that wants to help people worldwide. With NGOs as a global network, we can connect donors with travelers who will carry items inside their baggage to reach people globally and finally aid them in their needs.
About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

In developed countries the level of consumption is high, people are frequently throwing away functional gadgets, books, papers, pencils and so many other valuable stuff. And it is well known that “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure”; Especially poor countries where these items are need to empower education and reduce poverty. Problem is with the delivery system, nowadays, there is not an easy, cheap way to deliver these goods worldwide.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

Ugift is a cloud based platform to donate and transport goods and aid worldwide. NGOs will register themselves as ‘recollection centers’, once online, people will find them on internet to know 'what, where and how' they can donate. NGOs will register donations, and Ugift using a global centralized inventory will try to find a volunteer who can transport the goods around the world. For this task, Ugift will require travelers to register their future trips, specifying destination and dates, then Ugift will match these trips with the donations inventory. Travelers will help transporting the donations from one country to another on their baggage. Finally in the final destination, a NGO will receive the aid to help locally, all with no cost.
Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

When people donate an object that they do not need anymore, they can use Ugift to find local recollection centers. After the good is registered, Ugift will classify it and use algorithms to find out where those goods can have a higher impact, either by saving high costs or by special needs. Once Ugift knows the best destination, it will match potential travelers who have already registered their future trips. Those travelers will then receive a notification about a new ‘gift’ which they can deliver while doing their planned trip, if accepted, Ugfit will send the picking instruction and final destination coordinates, which mainly would be other NGO recollection center, who wiill finally be in charge to deliver the good where it is needed.

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact for the coming years.

Ugift project is in process to be launched, since it is in developing phase. However, the future impact is the Ugift network, the first global donation network, to connect donors, NGOs and people in need. The main purpose is to reduce poverty by empowering education, and a responsible consumption and production by reusing many stuffs. The impact will be high since everyone will be able to help to transporting or donating valuable stuffs using technology during their trips. To avoid transportation of illegal stuffs, Ugift won’t allow donors and recollection centers, to know about or control the final destination, only Ugift and traveler will know it. After the receiving NGO gets the donations, pictures can be send to donors and travelers to connect all the volunteers related to the to the delivery.

Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?

Main strategy is keep contacting NGOs, government and people to create a campaign to call to action. The campaign will focus especially on social networks, focusing profiles of potential donors and people who travel often. The launch will be global since its a cloud based platform, however the first campaign will be focus on US and European as donors countries. And receiving centers in Latin America or Africa, which will be the receivers in during the first phase. Building strong relationships with NGOs is key to spread a confident word of recollection centers worldwide making donating easier.

Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

The plan is divided in three phases: 1- Software will be released under Open Source license to enable quick, talented and organized development and support. 2. Information generated under Ugift will be operating under a more restrictive license, information always be encrypted for security. 3. Infrastructure and support will need to be attend by financial NGOs support. Once it has been demonstrated the cost reduction of transportation.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

Currently there is a program named Denton Program which allows donors to use space available on U.S. military cargo aircraft to transport humanitarian goods and equipment to countries in need. But lots of requirements have to be full filth. Then what if by using Ugift, the requirements became so easy, that any given volunteer could help cutting the costs of transporting where goods are needed. It is important to take into consideration, that the number of NGOs worldwide is increasing every year, and that today we could fairly say that there is an estimation more than 10 M million of NGOs,

Founding Story

With the idea of helping people around us and by looking at how platforms like Uber or Airbnb have made huge revolutions worldwide by using social media, we thought that, a similar model could be implemented in order to help close the distance between people that wants to provide help with people that needed. Plus, team members have had the opportunity to experience altruist activities while supporting the NGO “Cleaning the world” association and so as well by teaching deaf language. Along the way, those experiences have taught us that there is a willing community that wants to make a difference in their surroundings, and we just want to help them to make this a much better world.
