About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

Nowadays, air pollution is having a bad effect on people’s health. Most of people only go to hospitals when their diseases become worse because of expensive cost of treatment. They don’t have a habit of using any method to prevent themselves from illness but abusing medicines although they might cause them to side-effects.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

1. We popularize and instruct Qigong exercise – a natural method to prevent and cure health problems - to community. (Please visit: 2. Introducing traditional ways of keeping wellness and self-healing through our products which are suitable for modern life. This is a prevention method and non-medicinal treatment, no side-effects and saving medical cost for individual and society. • Herbal heat pads: help in stopping cold/fever; reducing asthma symptoms, join/back/neck/knee pains due to neural causes; relieving menstrual pains and also help post-partum to be recovered quickly. • Herbal anti-pollution masks, reducing and preventing inflammation due to sinusitis; deodorizing bad breath and avoiding car-sick. • Zen pillows help to relax and have a tight sleep, reducing infant from sweating; using for eyes relaxation, shoes deodorant …

Environmental problem now is the most concerned problem in the world. People nowadays start to go back to what we call “environmentally friendly manner” means trying to use what are friendly to the environment in order to protect and prevent our earth from being polluted and depleted. Our products are being introduced base on that direction. Hand made from 100% eco-friendly materials, products have been tested and proved that work well and have positive effects on people using them. One typical example is from the founder’s American pharmacist friend who kindled the founder to start up her Hand in Hand project from the beginning. It has been … years ago; he – the pharmacist – was having a sore back in long time and had used many kinds of medicines but could not get rid of the pain. Receiving the herbal heat pad as a gift, he was amazed about the product’s efficiency. It helped his back upright, no longer pain and brought him to a sound sleep. After experiencing it, he would like to have some more herbal heat pads for his Mum, sister and friend. That is one example showing the differences from using our natural products and abusing medicines.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

Our valued competitors are Vietnamese companies who have similar products lines such as Kissy for herbal masks... However, for shoes pillows, we are the pioneer and have yet had our main competitors. Our competitive advantages make us different are 100% eco-friendly materials being processed by both disabilities and normal people. Moreover, the products are not only able to prevent sickness but also solve some other health problems That products of competitors are not being able to do so. What challenges us is our competitors are bigger scale , well established companies ,have advantage in marketing resource and economies of scale.

Founding Story

One day, my maid got very high fever and fell in state of delirium at late mid-night; I used some herbs in our garden to make an herbal boiled pot. Her high fever then stopped without any medication. After the fever, she fell in paralyzed situation, but with only a bunch of herbs and salt, she was rapidly recovered. This makes me strongly believe in great value of aroma therapy. I’ve learnt more and known that some normal kinds of leaves have wonderful effects: some can help people easy to breath, relieve asthma; can be an antibiotics or deodorant, insects resistance… Since then, I believe herbs totally has potential to cure health problems and truly desire to be shared this method to the world.

We focus on:
•Creating suitable jobs for PWD and vulnerable people.
•Changing people's habit in abusing medicine but using natural home health care instead.
•Minimizing social health care costs means helping in improving public life conditions.

What has been the impact of your solution to date?

Our products have been accepted by Traditional Medicine Institute of Ho Chi Minh City, Hachi Hachi system (a chain of retail stores) and some drugstores.

• Aroma sachets 5518 units
• Pillow relaxation 120 units

2. People with disabilities are having jobs from the products:

• embroiderers 5 persons

What is your projected impact over the next five years?

With this Hand in Hand project, within the next five years, we strongly desire to build a home health care project for people using natural methods only. By reducing the amount of medicines get into the bodies, side-effects from abusing too much drugs/medicines can also be reduced. This is helping in limiting and reducing the overload in health sector as well as medical expenses of both individuals and the society. We are trying to reach a target of at least 30,000 products users in the next 5 year.

What barriers might hinder the success of your project? How do you plan to overcome them?

Currently, there are two main problems:

The products of Pillow and Leaves are based on aroma therapy; a new method has not been under any Vietnam quality test procedure yet. However, our products contain medicinal herbs - a mixture of herbs which are very common and can be easily recognized as well as accepted by any experts of botanic. Therefore, we would claim the quality standard of Thien Tam and got the certificate according to their advices.

The materials are quite common; therefore products’ shape may be imitated easily by competitors. However, we have special formulas which prevent others to copy our “quality”

We currently have several partners who have been cooperating and supporting us in implementing Hand in Hand project:
-“Gia Dinh Special School” and “Thien Tam Huong Company” are our contractor with disabled labor.
-Garage9 is the young investment organization who want to contribute some of their finance to help us pass through our difficult current finance situation.

Are you currently targeting other specific populations, locations, or markets for your innovation? If so, where and why?

Yes, we are currently targeting to Singapore market and population. The reason we are targeting to Singapore is because this country has quite high living standard and people are aware of taking action of natural health care to prevent from illness. Moreover, the medical cost in Singapore is very high, therefore not everybody in Singapore can afford going to hospitals. For that reason we believe that our products can be successfully expanded over that country.

What type of operating environment and internal organizational factors make your innovation successful?

There are many factors that could make the innovation success. However, based on Thien Tam’s mission; a disciplined but equal, friendly operating environment between staff with disabilities and normal people is the most ideal operating environment that we are trying to achieve every day. The internal organization factor that makes a different to our project and products as well as helping the innovation successful is the love sharing among each member in “Thien Tam family”, love for the project, love for every single product made.

To reuse scraps for sauna services, we wish to build a sauna service to serve low income people. To lend the premise and purchase equipment for sauna. This activities can bring a lot benefits: job for blind and deaf people also healthcare for low income people.
