About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

As you read this a patient may be critically ill. Whether he lives or dies depends on whether a unit of blood of the right type is available. India and the world is always facing a shortage of blood. People have to run from pillar to post for a unit of blood in their own city or some other city where they go for treatement. At times a patient dies for want of blood. And then there are unscrupolous elements who sell blood for money. is a community of blood donors in india which help patients who need blood.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific! is a database of Voluntory blood donors. Donors who wish to donate blood can register on the helpline through the website and also by sending an SMS to +919665500000 in a specific format . When patients need blood donors , they have to send a single sms and they will be connected to a Voluntory blood donors in their city. The services of the helpline and blood donors in free of cost.
Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

A Patient admitted to the Railway Hospital Perambur need blood donors. He has come from another state and needs blood donors. He know no body in this city who can help him . The medical staff at the hospital tell him how to send a sms in a particular format to a number. He sends the sms and he is connected to a blood donor in the city. He call up the blood donors who agrees to donate blood to the patient. He SMS'es again for another donor....

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches? was born in 1999 . In 2005 other websites came up which have come up which are databases of blood donors. But they do not realise the people cannot access websites in case of emergencies. Especially the common man does not know much about the internet. Mobile devices are accessible by everyone. Anybody can send an SMS and can be connect to a blood donor.

Founding Story

This Doctor has killed my wife ! It was the month of September 1994, my grandmother had a fall and went into coma. She was admitted into Indira Gandhi Medical College, Nagpur. One day at about 3.30 in the early morning, there was a huge commotion in the female ward. Relatives of a patient were bashing up the resident doctor in the ward. On enquiring from one of them he told me "he has killed my wife". I asked the doctor as to what had happened. He told me that he had asked the patients relatives to arrange for 2 units of blood as the lady's Heamoglobin count was very low. They could not arrange for donors and hence the transfusion could not be done and the patient passed away due to a cardiac arrest. This incident left a huge impact on me. 1999 was the DOT Com era. One day i was surfing the Internet and I realised that i could use the Internet to bridge the gap between a blood donor and a patient who needs blood. This was my Aha moment.
