About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

Mission (social component) – ecological education, raise of the environmental awareness and responsibility. We understand that people think in different categories and act according to different values. Some see the ocean as a source of income, and some see it as inspiration, but both often don't realize how fragile is the ocean as an ecosystem. People are unaware what impact their actions can cause.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

Our books allow to establish connections with very different people, while speaking in common terms with them: business is addressed with business terms, designer - with design, with everyman - on common grounds, etc. We care of not only the content of the books that we publish, but the publisher's responsibility for the use of environmental resources as well: •The design of the books allows to avoid unnecessary pages and minimize the amount of waste with a high quality of publication.
•Our books are always printed in FSC-certified press on FSC-certified paper only. •We don't have an office, on purpose. •Our website is also eco-friendly – the power is supplied by water. •We compensate our ecological footprint by planting trees.
Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

Our first book dedicated to the ecological labeling was published in an amount of 1000 copies at the expense of sponsors' funding. The book provides you information about labeling in food, clothing, cosmetics, etc. The second book dedicated to the eco-living within the megalopolis was created by crowd-funding.We were raising funds through platform and frankly weren't expecting such an active response.Within 40-days campaign we raised the required sum of money with the help of 472 co-publishers, our project became the most successful throughout Boomstarter's history. Thus, we were able to publish the second book at the amount of 1500 copies and were able to sell half of the edition (more than 900 copies) within first two months.

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact for the coming years.

Today our books are sold in more than 40 stores in 8 cities of Russia and United Nations. This year we became info-partners of 5 conferences about ecology and healthy living. Next year we are planning to increase this number to 50 with regional and international conferences. We've lost count of mentioning us in the media already, but we don't stop and keep generating newsbreaks:).This year, our representatives and authors conducted more than 70 educational workshops across Russia. We are planning to increase the scale of editions up to 3000 copies, and amount of books published annually up to 12.Thus, we are planning to publish 1 book per month at the amount of 3000.Thereby in total we will cover 36000 readers across Russia and United Nations. The amount of workshops will multiply more than 5 times, up to 400 annually. Then extend our impact by electronic books and mobile applications format.

Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

We have a plan that includes 3, 5 and 10-year basic planned digits. We plan to publish 12 books/year,but increase the scale gradually. I.e.,the size of edition will be increased from 3000 (3rd year from now) to 15000 copies in 10th year,we plan to be represented in up to 1500 stores in 500 cities worldwide and increase the amount of educational workshops by 3000 annually. By 2023 our total audience will rise up to half a million people per year.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

Country-wide only our publishing house deal with books on ecology by the principles of green publishing. We have publishing rights for all significant manuscripts in the field. We were sure we had analogues in Europe or USA.Still,we haven't found any. There are green books, but the is no Green Book Publishing House:)So we're sure to be first in Russia. 1.Unique content;2.Uncommon work format, providing significant cuts on costs;3.Applied principles of green publishing;4.Forming our own audience and expanding it through educational workshops by authors;5.Acting as media space for target audience.

Founding Story

I was disturbed by ecology matters since I was a student. For a while I was contemplating a project that would unite economic, social and ecological impacts. Once, while listening to a WWF report, I got an insight that we all have different values: for harvesting company a forest is a resource while an environmental organization sees it as an ecosystem which balance is easily disturbed. I realized there is a need for green content that would speak to business in business terms, to designer - in design, etc. I understood that's what I was looking for. Further steps were easier - to gather a team sharing idea and principles of eco-lifestyle; funds for starting the company; corresponding authors; to develop the concept, principles and website.
