Concise Summary: Help us pitch this solution! Provide an explanation within 3-4 short sentences.

It is necessary to offer need- and family-oriented programs. Out target is to create a daycare program for children, which is flexible in time, affordable and versatile all over Germany. First priority is always the loving care of the children – a second home, just like with mom and dad.

WHAT IF - Inspiration: Write one sentence that describes a way that your project dares to ask, "WHAT IF?"

How would it be, if everyone could combine his/her family life with his/her professional career and all children could be provided with the same
About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

The classic role model picture between man and woman is obsolete. More and more women want to return to their professions and fulfill themselves after the delivery of the child. But due to the current frame conditions, it is difficult to do so. Education and life long learning begins in an early age. Our facilities offer the same initial educational chances to all of the children, independent from their social backgrounds.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

We plan, build, administer and organize the daycare centers (nursery, kindergarten, after-school daycare) in cooperation with companies, municipalities, policy makers and experts (e.g. Prof. Dr. Fthenakis). We support, that men and women get the chance to be professionally involved and also meet their responsibility as a parent at the same time. We want to improve the professional and private life-situation of families in Germany remarkably by offering: family and child-friendly opening hours, continuous availability throughout the year, care and education programs that are flexible in time and by involving the family as a partner, as well as offering various additive values for the entire family.
Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

Max, 1.5 years old, visits our daycare center „KiKu Kinderland“ in Nuremberg. His mother is a single parent and urgently dependents on her job. Our flexible booking and opening hours that meet her demands, enable her to pursue her job without having a bad conscious. We also help the family to receive financial support by helping them with their applications for the youth welfare office. Max can take part at our educational and fostering programs and thus, he can lay the foundation for his educational progress. He and his mother are a stable family, that is satisfied with the life model they chose and the possibilities offered to them. Thus, we are able to decrease expenses for e.g. the family assistance on a long term basis.

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact for the coming years.

Important to us is a homogenous basis for the children’s educational chances that don’t depend on the social environment they origin from. If this foundation stone has been laid within the early childhood, we can become more efficient and innovative as an educational society. We make an essential contribution to the educational justice and to the integration, especially of children with a migration background. Currently, we operate 50 daycare center throughout the whole of Germany and we already cooperate with strong partners (amongst others: adidas, Opel, Deloitte, Hubert Burda Media, Airbus Helicopters, Deutsche Post, ERGO). We foster and care for app 3.500 children and occupy app 650 employees. Thanks to our cooperation with Prof. Dr. Fthenakis from 2012-2013, we clearly stand out in the prioritization of our quality management and in the professionalization of our employees.

Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?

In order to realize our vision, it is necessary to create a new understanding within politics and companies and sensitize these parties regarding this subject. Lobby- and explanatory work, as well as permanent seats in committees help us. In the long term, we’re aiming the nationwide expansion of early childhood education, determined by our visions and sustainable and innovative ideas. An expansion beyond the borderlines of Germany is also conceivable. Consulting activities for the settings of the educational situation in Germany are already in progress and are supposed to be expanded.

Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

- Revenue for the day-to-day business from parental fees + subsidies for operational expenses, guaranteed by the government - Investments by investment costs subsidies. - Acquisition and production costs from public investment costs subsidies, long-term external financing, growth capital from social and half-public investors (Auridis, BonVenture, Social Venture Fond), self financing from the generated cash-flow of the existing facilities

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

Sociopolitical engagement is provided by the two foundations Bertelsmann and Hertie. There are barely other providers that are specialized on the company sector and a few other providers, specialized on the cooperation with municipalities. Compared to others, we offer a more extensive and individually conceptualized range of service and in many cases our operating methods are closer to the demands. At the same time, we operate Germany wide and we are to be classified as charitable. Due to our holistic positioning and our many years of experience, we are able to execute a lost of projects.

Founding Story

During his time at law school, our founder and CEO Björn Czincoll noticed repeatedly within his circle of friends and family, how difficult it is for parents to find appropriate daycare for their children, especially if you wish to be a working parent. That's why he made the decision, if the authorities don‘t help, he will take the matter into his own hands. In 1998, he founded the public charity Kinderzentren Kunterbunt e.V. and in 1999, he opened our first facility in Nuremberg – the daycare center ‘Sonnenschein’. Of course, other parents beyond the borderlines of Nuremberg started taking notice of us and also wanted something like that. After we won the „Social Entrepreneur Germany“-award, our program became famous all over Germany.

We have a flat hierarchy and short communication channels, which enables us to be flexible and to continue to develop openly. The board of management (HR, commercial, marketing, management, projects, quality) is employed full-time. We have colleagues who have studied, as well as career changers with different life and business experience. Thus, we complement one another. An economic advisory council supports us with the spreading of our vision.
