About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

In France, young graduates living in disadvantaged neighborhoods and suburbs are suffering from a high level of unemployment (twice that of the portion of the general population with comparable qualifications). The problem is in part due to systemic discrimination in the recruiting process. Companies target the same schools and recruiting channels, which are still unreachable for most graduates from modest backgrounds.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

To change recruiting processes, our project aims to create a common recruitment service to allow companies to detect and recruit graduates from different backgrounds. We joined a non-profit organization (Mozaik RH) and a for-profit company (Experts) to create a recruitment service which includes diversity oriented sourcing. Experts helps opening the companies'doors for Mozaïk RH candidates !
Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

We are currently working together to compete for tenders by large corporations. Until this collaboration, Mozaïk RH did not have the means to respond to these competitive and extensive offers by itself, and therefore we had been unable to propose our services in order to promote diversity. Thanks to this partnership, our organization can respond to such calls for bids, and thereby gain access to new portions of the employment market in order to promote applicants from diverse backgrounds through our recruitment services. Our impact has grown exponentially as a result.

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact for the coming years.

The first phase consisted in developing a strategy for reaching out to large corporate structures with high volume recruitment needs : – 10 corporations were targeted and subsequently met with by both partners. – 2 out of the ten have thus far agreed to entrust us with a portion of their recruitment.

Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?

Expected impact: – raise awareness among buying directors about the need to include diversity "lots" within calls for bids that include a recruitment element. – Increase the geographic scope of the partnership through taking advantage of our partner's wide network of agencies, enabling us to access new job markets and corporate partners. – We seek to ensure at least one hundred job placements per year thanks to this partnership.

Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

For the moment we have decided to use our own general budget to finance this project. The main objective is to bring both organization business opportunities through contracts with corporate partners. However, the pilot version of the partnership has shown that we do not have the means to implement complementary awareness raising communication campaigns surrounding our work: conferences within corporations, for buying directors, etc.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

To our knowledge, no other partnership of this type has been created within the recruitment industry, since it is rare for a for-profit and non-profit organization providing similar same services to collaborate. We were able to overcome the financial considerations in order to create a partnership based on mutual trust to tackle an important social issue.

Founding Story

Over the course of the past six years, Mozaïk RH has enabled 2500 young recent graduates from divers background to gain employment which matches their qualifications. However, these 2500 are out of some 70,000 young people who came to us seeking assistance, which we did not have the means to provide. This is a gap which we needed to close! In 2013, we decided that we needed to increase our social impact through reaching out to new partners. In 2013, we met Experts, whose General Director shares our concern for the promotion of diversity, as demonstrated with his attitude toward recruitment within his own corporate structure. A fan of our work, he agreed to meet with us to discuss collaboration, and the partnership was born.

We have selected four project leaders, two from each partner, who meet twice annually to follow-up on the implementation of the partnership. The four were divided into two teams, each with a representative from both partners, including the two directors, in order to divide up clients and awareness raising activities.
