About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

Most of the victims of sexual abuse in Africa do not have someone to talk to about the abuse. Hence many sexually abused children fail to tell their families about the abuse hence many family members are unaware of their acts. Furthermore children do not know their rights thus some guardians have taken advantage of them as a result these children are sexually abused and exploited at the expense of supporting and financing their education.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

Child Sexual abuse and exploitation must be prevented before it occurs not after the fact actions. This can be achieved by providing a platform that will help empower people to speak up against and confront all forms of sexual abuse and exploitation and to highlight the importance of prevention. As such will have very few victims and more children growing up free from sexual trauma and its often devastating physical and mental health consequences. In addition building of child protection systems; ensuring co-operation between government and civil society institutions; and change in behavior and practices. Furthermore enacting clear policies and laws; establishing strong enforcement mechanisms are part the project solutions.
Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

Following an increase in HIV infection and the risk to infect children through sexual abuse, there is need to develop comprehensive interventions to protect and manage sexually abused children. In this view recently a 10 and 13years minors were reported to be pregnant in Kaloko township of Ndola in Zambia. The former was sexually abused by an unknown person and this leaves so much to be desired and the latter was sexually abused by a teacher and it is reported that this is minor 6 months pregnant. On a sad note, there is still more overwhelming evidence that sexually abused children run a high risk of being further victimized.

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact for the coming years.

The project has an impact on educational settings, at the work places, in formal and informal systems of justice, and even within the child protection system. Generally, the underlying attitudes towards young people show a blatant need for young people’s rights education coupled with prosecution of perpetrators. This project makes a difference in a way that it will have an impact on Peace building, Employment, Education, Cultural Diversity, Youth Empowerment of Women and human rights. The projected future impact is on the stiff promotion of better awareness to action which will help change the common belief that nothing can be done to prevent child sexual abuse and exploitation, and help encourage people to speak up when they see harmful actions.

Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?

The project seek to prevent child sexual abuse and exploitation before it occurs and not after-the-fact actions this is achieved by providing a platform that help empower people to speak up against and confront all forms of sexual abuse and exploitation and to highlight the importance of prevention. As such Africa in due time will have very few victims and more children growing up free from sexual trauma and its often devastating physical and mental health consequences challenges .
Sustainability

Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

The initiative offer its core services free of charge hence all activities and trainings are conducted through workshops, seminars and conferences which are mostly funded by donors. The solution to ensure financial sustainability lies in an income generating activity which is a digital media studio with services including hiring PA Systems, Video production of anti-child sexual abuse and HIV/AIDS movies and recording sensitization music.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

UNICEF addresses the same problem but then this project differs from UNICEF's because this project aims at preventing child sexual abuse and exploitation before it occurs not after the fact actions. Besides, this project encompasses sexually abused children, those who are at risk of being abused, community leaders and other stakeholders, be it school going or not. Over and above all the approach of this initiative is shaped by the balance between the communities need and of child sexual abuse and exploitation perpetual occurrences.
Team

Founding Story

The moment that led to the initiation of the project was when a 10 and 13years minors were reported to be pregnant in Kaloko township of Ndola in Zambia. The former was sexually abused by an unknown person and this leaves so much to be desired and the latter was sexually abused by a teacher and it is reported that this is minor 6 months pregnant. Above all the challenge of children sexual abuse and exploitation in Zambia and across Africa has become a subject of concern, in that sexual abuses and exploitation have reached a very alarming stage which demands a full force intervention of different stakeholders and a stiff legal action against perpetrators.

The recipient groups of the solution are as follows: Community Leaders, Women’s Groups, Community based NGOs, Clergy, Teachers and pupils but the target group mostly are young people at risk and the victims of sexual abuses, this to say children and youths.

Scaling the solution: How would the prize money and publicity help you to achieve your objectives over the next two years?

In two years time the prize and publicity would enable my initiative reach and offer its intended objectives in other countries through Anti-child abuse & exploitation campaign, sensitization, workshops, seminars and conferences.
The main objective of my initiative is to prevent child sexual abuse and exploitation before it occurs and not after-the-fact actions. Therefore the prize and publicity would enable the initiative reach to other countries fast and provide a platform that would help empower people to speak up against and confront all forms of sexual abuse and exploitation and to highlight the importance of prevention. As such Africa would have very few victims and more children growing up free from sexual trauma.
