About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

The main problem that this project is trying to address is the lack of opportunity that street children has to express and discover their capacities and skills.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

By providing them venue to converge and give opportunity to make their own solutions creatively, they will be empowered to take on bigger steps towards change. First in themselves then later to the society (or community they are in).
Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

The primary activity of Beehive is to provide venue for children to express and discover themselves creatively. Activities like this doesn't end by creating artworks but also empowering them and healing their traumatic experiences. This is a great opportunity for the children to convey their ideas and prove to themselves that they can do something and be part of the solution.

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact for the coming years.

As of now, the children we are working with express themselves more on what they want to become. Art as a medium of therapy proves that they are more of a survivors rather than victims of circumstance.

Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?

If given the opportunity to expand the project, it would create an impact that is sustainable for the children. I was thinking of putting an exhibit and a book about their plight as street children and with this, the healing and integration of these children in the community are understood. The more people understand their plight, the more people will help and work that they may be out in the streets.
Sustainability

Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

This specific project requires great effort even with the little finances at hand. If given, the opportunity to expand this to other communities like children in the indigenous communities or in-school children in locations that seldom has access to art materials. Then we can leave materials and venue for them wherein art is not seen as an elite activity but a venue for well being.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

As of now, in my place (Dipolog City) Beehive is the only organization who works on children with this initiative and strategy.
Team

Founding Story

Beehive is my brainchild and it started when I had a vision in a very unlikely situation - dreams. It started as a hooby shop that later progress in visiting communities nearby my hometown. The inspiration beehive is because like bees no matter how busy they are, their efforts are not just intended for themselves but for the community.

Team

Few years back, our team is composed of volunteers and parents of children we work with helps us in planning and designing activities. As of now, this is a one woman team since volunteers are mostly teachers who are also busy working with other things. However, parents assists in activities given in the communities.

Audience: Who have you identified as your customer/recipient groups and do these groups value your solution for different reasons? How do you engage different customer/recipient groups to deliver your solution?

children specifically street children are the main target group of this project by encouraging them to develop their own talents and skills. self-discovery and self-expression through arts. helping the children out in the streets would also mean reintegrating them to their families. thus, creating a holistic approach in working for the solution.

Scaling the solution: How would the prize money and publicity help you to achieve your objectives over the next two years?

the prize money will help us build a physical hang out place for the children. one that is accessible to them or a mobile art class to expand the scope of the project. the publicity will help us bring the advocacy helping these children and encourage them to be part of the solution.

Experience: Please provide examples of any previous entrepreneurial initiatives you have pioneered

I started beehive as a hobby shop that envisions to provide venue for the children to converge their ideas and talents. a hang out place and an interactive warehouse that hones their skills. However, with the little income, i was pushed to close down the shop. Yet, with the burning passion to continue my project, i started going to communities and provide them the same venue for self-discovery and self-expression.
