Project Summary
Elevator Pitch

Concise Summary: Help us pitch this solution! Provide an explanation within 3-4 short sentences.

The x factor project is to help poor farmers in rural villages increase their income from cultivating Egyptian clover through improving its quality and vertically increasing the production without consuming more water for irrigation and increase milk production of cows eating this clover.

WHAT IF - Inspiration: Write one sentence that describes a way that your project dares to ask, "WHAT IF?"

Farmers can gain more profit from cultivating Egyptian clover by decreasing its expenses and increasing its revenue.
About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

Farmers in Egypt gain only 10,000 EGP (1,300 USD) in 6 months from cultivating 1 acre Egyptian clover this considered low profit because of low acre production and high prices of chemical fertilizers. But they have to cultivate it because it is the cheapest cattle feed. Beside low daily milk production of cow which is 6 litters compared to the global average production which is 35 litters; all this led to the increasing prices of meat.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

Our project is to increase farmers’ profits from cultivating Egyptian clover by providing them with new fertilizer cheaper and safer than chemical fertilizers, increase acre production and improve the nutritional value of clover to increase milk production of cows. All this without consuming more water in irrigation to solve the water scarcity that Egypt is facing after Ethiopian dams construction over the Nile that will lose Egypt 25% of its annual water supply. Increase in production of clover and milk and therefore farmers’ profits will account for decreasing prices of meat for the whole community.
Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

We partnered with experts from faculty of agriculture and genetic engineering institute and after 2 years of research and experiments,we invented new bio-fertilizer “Delta1” which is 92% cheaper than chemical ones and safer as it is free from nitrous amine compounds which is carcinogenic on long run usage. We used it in cultivating clover in land for research experiments belongs to the faculty and found that it effectively increased acre production without consuming more water and improved the quality of clover as its protein contents increased by 38%. After that we obtained the license to use it from the ministry of agriculture and started our advertising campaign in 9 governorates to market Delta1 and help farmers to increase their profit

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact for the coming years.

We targeted 4500 poor farmer in 7 governorates who own 3000 acre of cultivated clover. We made field visits to teach them how to use Delta 1 to provide the maximum benefit. We provided them with the needed amount of fertilizers. The crops grown faster led to double the cuttings from 4 to 8 times. Also, cows gained 120kg, abortion levels decreased by 200% and milk production increased from 5 to 12 liters daily which increased their income by 5,100 EGP in 6 months. Eventually the net income of cultivating 1 acre of land increased from 10,000 EGP to 22,000. Also, we worked with animal development society NGO in Qutor district (one of the biggest milk collecting points in Egypt) own by 34,000 farmers, as we provided them with the new clover, the milk production of the 4600 cows they own increased by an average of 6 liters per cow daily. This increased their monthly income by 3,312,000 EGP.

Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?

We established 2 outlets in faculty of agriculture in Shebin and faculty of veterinary in Sadat to market Delta1. And for sustainability, we with the experts who invented Delta 1 established company called (Royal Green Technology) and signed contract with the farmers union and the Bank for Development & Agricultural Credit which will enable us to target more than 1 million acres in the next season which will make Egypt self-sufficient of clover while decreasing annual cultivated land with clover by 1,5 million acres to be cultivated wheat to decrease wheat imports by 80%.

Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

Our project didn’t need huge budget as it is a win-win situation, as we sell the fertilizer to farmers which is 92% cheaper than chemical ones and this also give us profit to sustain our work. And our university was paying all costs of Delta1 production and experiments and it gained 165,000 EGP from selling Delta1 this season. But from now, Royal green technology Co. will produce and sell Delta1 the next season for its own profit.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

Many others invented organic fertilizers to increase production of land but they never reached to double the production of any crop. Also, our fertilizer is specific for Egyptian clover which is the main component of agriculture-cattle-human chain as it is the cheapest cattle feed and affect milk production and meat prices. Also, our project can be applied nationwide as it addresses solving real problems we are facing such as the huge wheat imports and prices of meat. And we established a company to sustain this social enterprise in a win-win situation and signed contract to spread the impact.

Founding Story

Founding story return to 2007, when 2 university students connected with a worldwide NGO office in Egypt called SIFE “Students In Free Enterprise” and got agreement from its CEO and Menoufia University president to establish a team in our university. And they started to recruit students to help our community and change the world. In 2012 its named changed to be ENACTUS “Entrepreneurial, action, us). We have a specific criterion that each project must achieve which is to consider the relevant economic, social and environmental factors and effectively empowering people in need by applying business and economic concepts and an entrepreneurial approach to improve their quality of life and standard of living. We implemented 20 projects.

We have Board members, academic advisor and business advisory board members but still team members from different fields are the main potential that helps us achieve our goals. Audience: Who have you identified as your customer/recipient groups and do these groups value your solution for different reasons? How do you engage different customer/recipient groups to deliver your solution?

We identified our target audience to be poor farmers in rural villages who cultivate Egyptian clover as they suffer from low profit they gain from cultivating it. Another audience is the animal development society NGO which has 4600 cow and considered one of the biggest milk collecting points in Egypt. We engaged them by organizing advertising campaign and routinely field visits and providing them with cheap fertilizer increasing their production.

Scaling the solution: How would the prize money and publicity help you to achieve your objectives over the next two years?

Winning the award and the prize money will help us to make the needed amount of Delta1 fertilizer for farmers who own 1 million acre that we contracted with through farmers union and bank for development and agriculture credit to provide them with fertilizers. And will help us to target all farmers and Egypt and reaching new markets outside Egypt also

Experience: Please provide examples of any previous entrepreneurial initiatives you have pioneered

Beevelop:We empowered 9 unemployed youth to start bee keeping project and increased their income 85%.
Recycling project:We organized 2 months awareness to residents of kafr el-sheikh ibrahim village on sorting garbage, recruited 4 unemployed youth to collect sorted garbage daily, provided them with small vehicle (tricycle),increased their monthly income 55% and reworked recycling factory in Quesna that produced 450 tons of compost fertilizer.
