Project Summary
Elevator Pitch

Concise Summary: Help us pitch this solution! Provide an explanation within 3-4 short sentences.

5000 is the number of Tunisian fighters in Syria and Iraq with ISIS-According to US House Homeland Security Committee latest data-Astonished?Most of them are students:Choked? What about giving them a better environment in their universities and a road other than the road of extremism?!

WHAT IF - Inspiration: Write one sentence that describes a way that your project dares to ask, "WHAT IF?"

What if Tunisian mothers wait their children at the airport to back with certificates of success, instead of waiting their bodies in coffins? What if those 5000 Tunisian fighters are peace ambassadors, instead of being a disgrace to the Tunisian identity?
About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

Tunisia today is topping the list of exporting countries terrorists, most of them are universities 'students excelling in scientific field such as medicine, physics, chemistry, electronic engineering for the benefit of their skills. In the absence of an active community life in our universities such as clubs, students are an easy target for brainwashing, radicalization and recruitment in terrorist organizations that "give a value " for their skills!

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

My project is about strengthening financial resources and support devoted to clubs in universities, through a foundation, focusing on scientific clubs. Under the name“Engaged youth for better Tunisia” the foundation aims to help clubs in the universities to find financial resources to “give life” to their ideas and their projects and to encourage them to be engaged in the civic life. We will give them an other choice and an other road better then the extremism road. Providing students with a "healthy environment" in their universities where they can feel that they are effective members in the society, will strengthen their sens of belonging to our TUNISIA ,is the goal of the project.

Both Tunisian minister of youth and of higher education and scientific research express their proud and their encouragement to my project.
Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

3 years ago, when I started my club "club of young chemists", a classmate kept coming to our club in the university after courses and asking if we have any activities, anything to do with us where he can be a part of it. but at that time we were not active,we were looking for sponsors and financial resources to start. Few weeks later, he joined ISIS for Jihad and was killed.what if someone gave him "an opportunity" to express him self, an other road to walk through it ?I couldn't make a difference 3 years ago. But now, with my foundation many students will be engaged in the social-cultural life in their universities.Protecting 1 student from being an easy target for brainwashing and radicalization, for me is a big achievement.

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact for the coming years.

To date, based on my experience of 3 years as sponsoring manager in many clubs and associations, I am coaching and mentoring students in universities clubs how to find sponsors for their projects, simply because without financial resources, their projects will just still dreams on papers! To date, in my university, the number of students engaged in different clubs, increases day after day. If I succeed to protect one student from brainwashing and recruitment with ISIS,for me it's a big achievement. Through this project, I aim to encourage students to be engaged in the civic life, to be effective in the society and to strengthen their sens of belonging to our country. We are working from our position as students leaders,to decrease the number of students joining ISIS.

Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?

-Using the same terrorists' strategy to recruit youth, is our strategy! using social media to"recruit" universities'students in our foundation! -making a database of Universities alumni in my country,to gather them and convince then to invest in their "old"universities through funding universities clubs. -Terrorism in Tunisia has targeted recently the tourism sector, whether the attack of Bardo museum or the attack of The hotel in Sousse, so I started meeting and talking with many businessmen and hotels owners (the most damaged) to be engaged in this project by funding universities clubs.

Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

Financial sustainability will be ensured by: -membership fees -Advertising and publicity through a monthly magazine -Events in universities where many national and international companies can be sponsors in order to show their contribution on youth activities.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

the Government and other few NGOs address the problem of terrorism: The government deal with it with military engagement which is only one part of the solution. Our response to terrorism needs to be multi-faceted. We have to work to stop recruitment and lead back our youth back into societies. Other NGOs work on youth radicalization occasionally. My project work with universities'scientific students because today terrorists recruit them for the benefit of their knowledge in bomb-making and explosives, communication across network..

Founding Story

Fatima ZOUAGHI; Medical student, the head of ANSAR AL SHAIAA’s media wing, 20 years old. She participated in the planning of the US embassy attack in Tunisia in 2012. Seiffedine YACOUBI;23 years old, an aviation student. He has killed 39 tourists/ 40 injured in SOUSSE attack, Juin 2015. Both of them are scientific students that were a target of brainwashing and recruitment. And there is many young students like them but the one that I couldn’t forget his name! “a classmate” that traveled to Syria for Jihad with ISIS and was killed there 2 years ago. So It could be me, it could be any other student!! And from here came my project idea "Engaged Youth for better Tunisia".

The foundation concept: *Direction committee: that includes a limited number of people that have the spirit of leadership and the experience in the civic life. Every member of this committee will have a sub-committee that engage a maximum number of students. *An organizing committee: organizing events/visiting the universities/ making databases of clubs and students/ membership.. *Sponsoring and Funding committee: sponsorship training/ fundraising activities ... * A mag'committee: a group of students and professors working on magazine that publish all the activities of the clubs which are engaged to stimulate other students to be part of the foundation and specially to ensure a source of grants via Advertising pages for sponsors. *Media committee: the media remains a strong tool to promote the image of youth, so this committee will work on this point. -Students will work part-time. -Retired professors will mentor students and some of them will work full time in the foundation. -The direction committee members will be elected every 2 years.

Great job,

I appreciate your work and what you are trying to accomplish. Changemaking is like music, you have to enjoy it every step and not wait for the results; because only when you enjoy what you are doing you can do great work.

Here are some comments, they might sound harsh but it is all with good intent.

Think of if you work on a 20 story building and you are with you an investor in that elevator, how would you pitch your idea? You talk about the problem but no statistics about how serious this problem is and what the solution is! Why is this important? And then in the end hint at the solution. Sell the problem then sell the solution.

What if:
I would suggest to make this a little more powerful by using words that describe the state of the world after your achieve your mission.

Use some references to make what you are saying more believable. Explore more of why does this problem happen? Find the root cause of the problem. Why is it so easy for people to get involved? Ask people that are affected to see what they think.

I like the approach. Think of how to utilize university resources and what is the best way to engage others. How does this healthy environment look like?
Wonderful! Think of also how would you help that one person? How would the experience he get from you help?
How do you define success? How are you going to measure that (whether you did it or not)?
Full Impact Potential:
Think bigger. What will need to happen to stop terrorist to recruit in Tunisia?
I like it! Think of ways to make a repeatable and scalable model that could be applied at all universities who have a problem with terrorists recruiting.

I like it. Think of what is your secret sauce and why is it effective and better than other approaches.

Story: I like it, very powerful
Team: Form a Board of Advisors that will help you on expanding and making this a better organization.
