Anya holds a BA in Anthropology from Columbia University and an MA in International Human Rights with concentrations in International Development and Human Trafficking from University of Dever. She has gained non-profit management experience working in these fields for over 5 years. Her focus is on advocating for abolition of modern day slavery, curbing male demand for prostitution and providing vulnerable people with sustainable employment and a healthy living environment. She sees herself as a fierce feminist with strong convictions that economic empowerment is a means to overcoming the staggering poverty that leaves so many women in this world exploited and without a voice. She hopes that she can spur an emerging normative shift in development work from donations and dependency to grassroots empowerment through her start-up social enterprise, Empower Generation. She currently lives between the Netherlands and Nepal.
