Lucky Chhetri challenges stereotypes of poverty, ignorance, and isolation for rural women by harnessing the growing demand for female mountaineers and adventure tourism professionals. In a traditionally marginalized population, she creates opportunities for education, social influence, and economic stability, giving them a voice in their society for the first time.
EWN provides disadvantaged Nepalese women from isolated communities with practical trekking guide training. One month in class is followed by paid apprentice program with our sister organization 3 Sisters Adventure Trekking. Traditionally, Nepalese women are considered incapable of decision and employment opportunities are few. EWN creates an enabling environment for trainees to discover inner strengths and talents. We foster their self esteem and confidence. In encouraging questions we break negative stereotypes.
Empowering Women of Nepal (EWN) was founded in cooperation with 3 Sisters Adventure Trekking Company (3Sisters). EWN provide practical, skill-based training programs combined with gainful employment opportunities, specifically focused on the trekking industry. Responding to the gross inequality of women in Nepal, EWN offers unprecedented opportunities for women from poor, isolated mountainous regions in west Nepal to improve their quality of life.
Training Nepalese women as trekking guides, leading to educational and employment opportunities never before known by rural Nepalese women.
Based in Nepal, 3 Sisters Adventure Trekking (3 Sisters) was founded in 1994 to empower and employ rural women in adventure travel. Lucky Chhetri felt the impact of mountaineering training in her own life and wanted to share the feeling of strength and possibility with others. Responding to the gross inequality of women in Nepal, 3 Sisters founded a local NGO, Empowering Women of Nepal (EWN). Together, they offer unprecedented opportunities for women from poor, remote mountainous regions to become confident, self-sufficient, and successful through adventure tourism.
