Diarrhea is the second biggest contributor to the global burden of disease (WHO 2008) and the biggest killer of children in Africa (The Lancet 2010), killing more children than HIV/AIDS, malaria and measles combined. Every second hospital bed in Africa is used by a patient suffering from preventable diarrhea, draining resources from already fragile health systems.
