Vandalism

NAME | Tremanie Culberth

GRADE | 8

LOCATION | Bradenton, Florida

8th grader Tremanie Culberth and her friends Cameron, Gabe, and Noah of Bradenton, Florida, are determined to tackle a growing problem in their community: vandalism. Their inspiration came from walking through the halls of their school, “We discovered it at school where we see multiple things written on the walls, this is important to us because we would like to be in a clean environment and help janitors and cleaners who have to clean up after us.”

They plan to motivate their peers to join them in taking action through spreading the word about the negative effects of vandalism and hosting a cleaning competition at their school. They would also like to organize a fundraiser at an upcoming basketball game to help raise money for cleaning supplies.

We want to solve the problem, of vandalism. We discovered it at school where we see multiple things written on the walls, this is important to us because we would like to be in a clean enviorment, and help janitors and cleaners who have to clean up after us. Just from seeing what kids and people in general write on things, with us knowing someone will have to clean it, it just makes it easier for people who have to come behind our doing.

Our solution is to report any vandalism we see or to clean it ourselves, we will also try to get the word out to students at our school and community to help us clean desks, bathroom, walls, etc.

Clean up where cleaning needs to be done, help teachers/janitors clean up after school, and make announcements to the school to encourage students to help clean.

Cameron, Noah and Gabe. We have all worked together to brainstorm and evaulate our ideas and choose our favorite. We started coming up with a plan of how we can encourage others to help as well as follow through with our plan.
